Sari Tervaniemi is a visual artist, her focus is video art, photography and cinematic video installations addressing questions of violence, power and control. She is fascinated possibilities camera and photographic techniques offer as means of cinematic expression. She likes to push the borders from fiction to documentary style with a conceptual approach.

Our place in the world, where we are now, defines our identity. With whom we are associated with and where do we live and work build the foundation of our identity as well as the virtual reality that we choose to immerse into. It is an accumulation of multiple fragments affected by a circle of trusted people.

The video artworks and photographs Tervaniemi makes views at the same time familiar and uncanny and alters commonplace views and moments into surreal intimacy. Often she likes to search for dream like visions that unexpected camera angle or the soft out of focus nature of the photograph can emphasize.

In m4gastatelier Tervaniemi works with a series of works under the title The Bravest Real-Life Heroines I Know that are based on documentary material.

Sari Tervaniemi received her MA at The Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, in London. Tervaniemi’s works have been exhibited widely in numerous group shows at the museums and galleries.
